Description

This condensed version of The First Responder’s Field Guide to Hazmat & Terrorism Emergency Response is geared for awareness level personnel. Awareness level personnel are those persons who, in the course of their normal duties, could encounter an emergency involving hazardous materials or WMDs. They are expected to recognize the presence of hazardous materials or WMDs, protect themselves, call for trained personnel, and secure the area.

Although, by definition, awareness level personnel have a very limited role, many people at the awareness level are part of the overall emergency response network. So this book is structured to meet their needs as well.

FAQ

FAQ

Is this book a field guide or classroom text?

The book was designed as a field guide for first responders at the awareness level.

Is there an instructor manual to go with this book?

No. There has not been sufficient customer interest to make creating instructor manuals cost-effective.

Does this book contain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dealing with hazmat incidents and terrorist events?

The book contains guidelines (or key points) for dealing with different types of incidents, but they are not meant to be SOPs.

How does this book compare with the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG)?

Hazardous Materials and WMDs: A Field Guide for Awareness Level Personnel is, in essence, a Hazmat First Responder Awareness class in a field guide format. It covers your basic responsibilities at a hazmat incident or terrorist event, regardless of the material involved.

The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) is more chemical-specific, with hazard information and guidelines on how to handle incidents based on the type of product you may be dealing with. While Hazardous Materials and WMDs: A Field Guide for Awareness Level Personnel does provide brief hazard information and guidelines for dealing with products in the various DOT hazard classes, this comprises only a small portion of the book.

Is the book available on water-resistant paper for use in the field?

No. Printing these books on water-resistant paper would be cost-prohibitive.

Is the book available as an eBook?

No, not at this time.
